To join, fill in the SMSC Membership Application (linked at left) and forward it to the club in an envelope clearly marked "Membership Application". All new memberships are subject to approval by the club’s board of directors.

The SMSC membership categories and fees (excluding HST) for 2011 are shown in the table and text below.

New Member Fees:

*HST not included - includes a 10% discount that existing members enjoy for paying by April 15, 2011. All but the newest Senior members receive additional discounts - these will be included on the renewal invoice that you will receive in early 2011.

Normal Members:

  1. Family* – A Family Membership where both of the partners are less than 60 years of age.
  2. Single – An Individual Membership when the individual is 25-59 years of age.
  3. Senior Family* – A Family Membership where one of the partners is 60 years of age or older.
  4. Senior Single – An Individual Membership when the individual is 60 years of age or older.
  5. Intermediate – An Individual Membership when the individual is 19-24 years of age.
  6. Junior – An Individual Membership when the individual is less than 19 years of age.

Extraordinary Members:

  1. Member-at-Sea – A member who is resident outside of Nova Scotia for more than one year, who wishes to be maintained on the Registry of Members, and is not to make any use of SMSC facilities or programs other than electronic services (eg. Website) or mailed items (eg. Newsletter) during the period of absence.
  2. Honourary – A member without annual membership fees, as granted by the Board of Directors.

** A Family is defined as:

  • two individual persons who live together as partners and any dependent children under 25 or
  • an individual person and any dependent children under 25

*** A 30-year bond purchase of $500 (at zero interest) is required for all new members (except Intermediate and Junior categories and other categories when the oldest individual is under 30 – bond purchase is required for all members at age 30 as of January 1, 2010). The bond purchase can be deferred over three years for new members. See details on the application form.
