Mary Russell Dedication Ceremony PDF Print E-mail

Date: October 15, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Although the SMSC community was saddened by the loss of Mary Russell, her passing provided the opportunity for many to think back affectionately and with appreciation for her many significant contributions and friendship. As past Commodore Lee Mryhaugen reminds us, her contributions extended beyond her own “hands on” efforts to persuasion strategies where she worked to have others take on meaningful projects. One such project was the construction and placement of our trophy case (trophies and the recognition of sailing achievements being close to Mary’s heart) which she convinced her husband Peter to build.

Your Executive, upon receiving numerous nominations and accolades from our wider community, was delighted to recently pass a motion that will see the trophy case dedicated to Mary’s memory.  You are invited, and indeed encouraged, to attend the ceremony when we will dedicate the trophy case and otherwise commemorate Mary’s life in our midst. The dedication ceremony coincides with our yearly Awards Ceremony, an apt choice given our memories of Mary.

Please come out on October 15th to celebrate this very special person.
