Youth Sailing at SMSCSt. Margaret Sailing Club's Junior Sailing programs are an active and fun way to allow young sailors to spend their summer days enjoying life on the water while developing lifelong friendships. Our courses are taught by Canadian Yachting Association certified instructors who allow students to experience sailing in a fun-filled, challenging and safe manner. Youth Sailing Program Info:
Programs Offered:Opti-Rec (age 8-10) This 2 week program is an introduction to the one-person ’Optimist’ sailboat and is appropriate for young sailors ages 8 to 10. Days are split between sailing an Optimist and recreational activities that include field games, nature walks, visiting local beaches by water, and swimming. No experience required. Session 1 July 4 - 15 White Sail (age 10 - 14) White Sail may be completed after taking Opti-Rec or with no sailing experience at all. This class is taught in two person Echo's and smaller one person Optimists and covers basic sailing skills (White I, II & III). Now available in two week sessions! Session 1 July 4 - 15 Bronze Sail (age 12 - 16) Bronze Sail is taken after White Sail and covers advanced sailing skill like trapeze, spinnakers and sail theory. Instruction takes place in C420s which are a larger, two person dinghy. Classes often participate in the local regatta circuit as an introductory racing experience. Bronze Sail is a four week program. Session 1 July 4 - 29 Race Team With a focus on honing their race skills, these advanced sailors use Laser Radials and our Club 420s to compete in the Maritime sailing circuit, keeping SMSC as their home base and training centre.
