The hurricane/tropical storm caused high winds late on Sunday and overnight (but very little rain!). The highest gust recorded by our roof top weather station was 45 knots and it was in the 25-35 kts range for 14-16 hours until it started to drop by mid morning on Monday. Racing got off to a late start by mid-afternoon which allowed the wind some time to die down. Even so, the wind was still strong and the waves huge! At SMSC, we deliver challenging race conditions!
This author - the Alpha fleet scorer - had to make his way out to the Alpha finish boat in a 12-ft "zodiac" - that was no fun - I can't imagine how strenuous it must have been to race a dinghy in those conditions. Two races were completed for all classes. Results for Monday have been posted to the event page. If you don't see yourself in the results, that is likely because your registered sail number is not what you sailed with today. Resolve this with a scoring inquiry (forms available in the main floor of the race management building). Have a great day Tuesday! Oh, one more thing... if you are not a sailor, if the technology cooperates, I hope to be posting Alpha course provisional results from the Finish Boat shortly after each race finishes. If you are a sailor, turn on your smart phone when you get back to the club and you will see results before paper copies are posted on the bulletin board. |
