Another perfect day on the Bay, with wind from 190 degrees at 8-12 knots for most of the day, and 4 races that were perfect for the competitors. In the Laser class, top dog was Chris Dold from the Royal Canadian Yacht Club,Toronto. He had 3 firsts and a second today to lead the fleet with 10 points. In second place Lee Parkhill, also from Toronto, with 21 points and third place went to Brad Funk from Lauderdale Yacht Club in Florida with 22 points. The 22 lasers come from across Canada and a few invited sailors from the US. In the female Radial fleet, Isabella Bertold from Royal Vancouver Yacht Club took a strong hold on first place with a third, plus three firsts to lead the fleet of 21 Radials with 11 points total. Local sailors Lisa Ross (#184480 in photo below) and Danielle Dube, both from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS), were second and third with 18 and 19 points respectively.
In the mens Radials, Hugh Macrae from Kingston Yacht Club in Ontario, leads the fleet with 14 points after getting four first place finishes today. Hugh is hoping to represent Canada at the Youth World Sailing Championships this summer in Ireland. He is followed by Alex Burke from Hubbards Yacht Club with 18 points and third place goes to Jack Bignell from RNSYS with 23 points. The race committee for this event includes multiple time Olympic race officer Paul Ulibarri (at right in photo below) from Victoria BC and a host of officials from across the country. They have been very creative in placing the courses in positions that challenge the sailors (and course workers).
Racing continues tomorrow with 3 races planned in stronger wind conditions than today. |
