I had the privilege this past weekend of attending the Canadian Yachting Association's national awards banquet in Toronto. Our club has again been awarded a national trophy related to our dinghy regattas, in particular we were awarded the: "Chisholm Trophy for Excellence in Race Management"
The citation for this new award is below. We should all be proud of what our small club achieves at the national and international level. At the 2011 CYA Trihedral National Sailing Championships, hosted by the St Margaret Sailing Club, under the leadership of Regatta Chair, Rod Millar, a team of 70 volunteers, made regatta management look easy. International Race Officer Paul Ulibarri led a group of Race Officials that completed all 22 scheduled races for 50 competitors in 8 to 20 knots of breeze. There was also a focus on training at the Championship, with 12 coaches present, including two National Team coaches who provided leadership, advise and training for the others. The PRO mentored two race officers on the signal boat and gave a seminar for all of the Race Committee. Everyone who worked on the event got a first-hand look on how regattas should be run. For Excellence in Race Management, the Chisholm Trophy goes to the St. Margaret Sailing Club and Dave Lane of the Board of St Margaret is here to the receive the award from past CYA President Gerry Giffin. In 2010, we received the CYA trophy for Regatta of the Year (related to the 2009 Nautel Laser Worlds). |
